SBS18 Opening Day – Friday 12th October
Scotland’s Boat Show 2018 opened to visitors at 10.00am on Friday 12th October despite the efforts of Storm Callum. The opening ceremony was conducted by representatives of Scottish sailing and the media in the RYA Scotland pavilion from left to right; Donald Martin (Editor In Chief The Herald), Gordon Smith (Regional Director Visit Scotland), Ewan MacPherson (Chairman RYA Scotland), Gavin McDonagh (Managing Director Holt Leisure Group), Kevin Blamire (SBS Event Director) and Daniel Steel (CEO Sail Scotland).

SCOTLAND’S BOAT SHOW 2018 AWASH WITH VISITORS Despite the tail end of ‘Storm Callum’ sweeping the country, thousands of visitors headed to Scotland’s Boat Show 2018 (SBS18) as the largest Scottish and 2nd largest UK boat show returned to Kip Marina, Inverclyde over the October weekend, attracting visitors and exhibitors from across the UK, Ireland and even as far afield as Europe. With a new expanded layout and more than 120 new and pre-owned boats on view to tempt all tastes and budgets, marine trade exhibitors and visitors alike declared SBS18 to be a storming success! Broker Michael Schmidt & Partner’s Roseann Sweeney said, “With almost 400 viewings and many boats already under offer during the weekend we are amazed at the success of this year’s show given the conditions and, with many leads still to be followed up, we are hopeful this could be one of our most successful ever”. Weather Update – SBS18 – Thursday 11th October
Weather Update -Thursday 11th October Scotland’s Boat Show 2018 will open to visitors at 10.00am on Friday 12th October. Due to forecasted high winds for Friday, certain on water elements of the show may be unavailable during this time. RYA Scotland on water activity is cancelled for Friday plus small dinghies and the Wheelyboat will be unavailable for any of the 3 days of the show. All other RYA Scotland on water sessions are to go ahead as planned on Saturday and Sunday. During periods of high winds, public access to the waterside pontoons may be restricted, but the rest of the show area will be open as normal. Step On Board A Round The World Race Yacht
Step aboard the first ever Clipper Round The World race yacht ‘Taeping’. She will be making her only 2018 boat show appearance at Kip Marina during Scotland’s Boat Show 2018. Imagine eleven months of ocean sailing on a sixty foot yacht with more than a dozen other crew. Now you can as Taeping opens her doors to visitors during the show. Located on the main pontoon, she will be open for viewing each day of the show. The Pelle P Fashion Show Saturday & Sunday 1pm – The Chartroom Cafe @ Riverside Inverclyde Pavilion 2.30pm – WCS Food & Drink Pavilion The ‘Name of the Game’ is Pelle P – the iconic outdoor and active clothing brand from Sweden – and you can ‘Take A Chance’ to see the new winter range up close when Kip Chandlery boss Sven-Arne Johansson (insert ‘Dancing Queen’ joke here!) with his team of top models present a Pelle P fashion show on both Saturday & Sunday at 1pm in The Chartroom Cafe @ Riverside Inverclyde Pavilion followed by a repeat performance at 2.30pm in the WCS Food & Drink Pavilion The show features the new collection of technical and fashion wear from Pelle P that will have you saying Gimee! Get Afloat! RYA Scotland Motor Cruiser Experience
Ever wanted to go and explore our Lochs or set out across an ocean under power, then motor cruising could be for you? Partnering with You and Sea why not take the helm and find out what it’s like to get afloat onboard a 40 foot motor cruiser Millbrook. Minimum age is 8 years and those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants are asked to bring waterproof clothing and note that footwear is likely to get wet. Buoyancy aids and life jackets will be supplied. Sessions last approximately 1 hour and there are 6 spaces on the boat per session. Book your session HERE Please arrive 10 minutes before your session starts at the RYA Scotland stand. Please note this activity is weather dependent and sessions can be cancelled at any time.
Get In The Air at Scotland’s Boat Show 2018
Get In The Air! Enjoy spectacular views of Scotland’s Boat Show and the Firth of Clyde with a Heliscot helicopter flight for only £35! WCS Live Cooking Demonstrations at SBS18
West College Scotland Live Cooking Demonstrations @ SBS18 Join the WCS students & lecturers live at Scotland’s Boat Show 2018 in the West College Scotland Food & Drink Pavilion for a series of fantastic daily cooking demonstrations. After last year’s popular live demonstrations with Celebrity Chef Nick Nairn, and as this is the Year of Young people, watch the culinary stars of the future as the Hospitality Students of West College Scotland present three shows a day of different dishes using the finest Scottish ingredients. Admission is FREE although we will ask for a donation to local charities on the day – you can reserve your free ticket via the online booking system from 14th September. The West College Food & Drink Pavilion will be full of unique Scottish food and drink producers in a ‘street market’ style setting with everything from Alba Seafoods, Erincroft Bakery, The Damn Fine Cheese Company, Gigha Halibut, Artisan Gin and many, many more.

‘Get Afloat’ with RYA Scotland Always hankered after a boat but not sure how to begin? Then visit Scotland’s Boat Show 2018! Whether it’s sailing, powerboats, dinghies, RIBs, jetskis, paddleboards, or kayaks that take your fancy, there will be experts from owner’s associations and manufacturers to help and offer advice on how to get involved whatever your interest. New in the RYA Scotland Pavilion for 2018 is the ‘Sika Marine’ Stage & Theatre, which is the venue for three days of free lectures and presentations in association with the Cruising Association. On offer will be a series of entertaining free lectures on subjects ranging from expert advice on buying a second-hand boat to cruising around Britain. To actually get on water at SBS18 join one of the RYA Scotland ‘Free Taster Sessions’ which allow visitors to try yachts, motor yachts, RIB driving and dinghy sailing in the safe environment of Kip Marina during the show under the expert eye of RYA Scotland’s partners SportScotland National Centre Cumbrae, Ocean Youth Trust Scotland, Clyde Muirshiel Country Park and You and Sea Training.
